Bonerhordes

I play a sweet game against my lady friend today. 15 points of Warmachine with Retribution vs. Cygnar! Haley used eHaley (ahahahaha) and the battlebox with a Journeyman Warcaster that had the Charger attached to it. Thus:

Major Victoria Haley
Ironclad
Lancer
Journeyman Warcaster
Charger

I used Rahn, the dirtiest playa in the game with a more unit heavy list.

Adeptis Rahn Shyeel
Pheonix
House Shyeel Battle Mages
House Shyeel Magister
Houseguard Halberdiers

Unfortunately, Haley is really good at rolling and totally rocked my Mages and Halberdiers. The Ironclad literally took down my Pheonix with back strikes (butt rape) and all that was left was two Mages, the Magister and Rahn. The Halberdiers work as an excellent tarpit, but they definitely need to be maxed out with the Unit Attachment.

However! This Saturday we're probably playing some Axis and Allies at Ilhan's and Taylor wanted to try out a little Warmachine. He took a liking to Cryx - despite their Necron-esque-ism (what) - so we're proxying models for him and my plan to slowly get the group into WarmaHordes is in gear. I don't know what I'll play against in, but I'll probably take my Trolls once their complete. I figure two starter sets facing off would be a pretty good intro to Privateer Press' deliciousness. Here's to hoping it takes off with the group!

Delicious terrain?

After Father's Day, I had some giant lobster shells that I figured I would try to use to make some Tyranid terrain. I got the idea from The Eternal Warriors when Dan mentioned the use of lobster shells for terrain.

So after boiling the shell remnants in 50/50 water and vinegar for about 2-3 hours, I let them dry out for a few days which resulted in this:

Now comes the actual difficult part. These guys need to be mounted onto some sort of base and they need some extra structure. Enter the culprits:

I e-mailed Dan from TEW to see if he had any advice on preserving the shells, and he said to fill them with Great Stuff for a little extra structual integrity. So later tonight I'll be varnishing the shells and mounting them onto whatever bases I deem jawesome. So exciting.

Bug Infestation

After a few games yesterday with my Grey Knights losing pretty horribly to Ilhan's Guard and tying a game against Taylor's bugs, I was bestowed the honour of painting Taylor's awesome Forge World Trygon. The amount of detail in this model compared to the regular Games Workshop one is amazing. Taylor wants his bug painted up in the Hive Fleet Kraken scheme, and last weekend we toyed around with something painting methods, and I found one that seemed pretty easy to achieve. Here's a little preview of the Trygon, about a quarter of the way finished.

I strayed a little from the method we were using on his regular infantry which involved a white primed model wash with Ogryn Flesh and Gryphonne Sepia. The Carapace is based black and then feathered highlights of P3 Sanguine Highlight, P3 Skorne Red (or Khador Base, I think) and finally P3 Heartfire.

With the Trygon, I based the flesh with Iyanden Darksun, washed it with Dark Flesh, overbrushed with P3 Menoth White Base, washed it with Devlan Mud, feathered on P3 Menoth White Highlight and finially edged highlighted with P3 Morrow White. The carapace will be painted the same as the first method. The Toxin Sac is based with Dark Angels Green, and highlighted with mixes of DA Green, Snot Green, and Scorpion Green.

You might notice one of the bone spikes is grey - the original one snapped off and I tried to get it back on but the surface got ruined because of super glue sticking to my fingers. I managed to carve a new one from a bit of sprue frame and I think I did a pretty good job of it.

I'll probably be able to finish this monster by the end of the week, in time for Taylor to rock face with it and make armour saves with its deliciously painted carapace. I'm also going to start painting my Trollblood warpack that I picked up on Thursday. Here they are awainting some primer.

Trollface

Got some Razorbacks and Chimeras for my Grey Knights. I need four Venerable Dreadnought kits, two more Razorbacks and a slew of Power Armoured Grey Knights to complete them for now. Unfortunately, this won't happen for a while - until I dig myself out of the poor student house or Games Workshop unfucks their customers.

However, I did just pick up a Trollblood warpack from a relatively local shop.I already had some Menoth stuff, a Cygnar battlegroup and a large Retribution army - but these guys are something else all together. Each model in the Trollbloods faction is essentially Trollfacing their opponent. I played a battlegroup game against my woman-friend, and these guys are tough! They are much more forgiving than my Retribution army because of how defensive they can play, which means I get to keep more models on the table. The Axer that comes in the warpack is pretty much equal to the Cygnar Ironclad in melee, which really tied up Haley (little side note, my girlfriend's name is Haley, Cygnar has a caster named Haley, win for all) in combat. I didn't even need to pop Mordrak's feat because of he awesome spell list.

So I'm going to play a few games with half of a proxied Grey Knights army, and start playing Hordes/Warmachine at a not so local hobby store. It takes me about an hour to get there via transit, but the next closes one is just as far and less accessible and the third lack space and air conditioning it would seem. Hopefully I'll be able to expand on this army because the character of the Trollbloods is just hilarious. Something awesome about my first game with the Trolls saw one of my impalers pushing back a Charger six inches and effectively shutting down that Warjack for the rest of the game because of how difficult it had become to hit the rest of my warpack. I love these guys so hard.
